The book “The Boundaries of Data”, edited by Bart van der Sloot and Sascha van Schendel, is coming out in mid-March! One of the chapters has been written by Inge Graef and Thomas Tombal.
About the book:
The legal domain categorizes data into different types and applies varying levels of protection to each. While non-personal data often remains unregulated, rules governing privacy and data protection apply to personal data. Stricter regulations govern the processing of sensitive personal data compared to general personal data, and distinctions are made between metadata or communications data and content communications data. However, technological advancements are challenging these categorizations in three main ways: blurring the lines between categories, increasing instability in categorization, and prompting scholars to question the underlying rationale. This book evaluates the feasibility of existing strategies and explores alternative approaches by integrating insights from technology, practice, and law.
Pre-orders of the book can be made here. (The ebook version is available free of charge!)
