Exploring the Future of Data Governance: The IViR & TILT City Data Governance Conference

Data governance is at the forefront of transforming cities and local governance across Europe. As ‘Smart Cities’ emerge and data-sharing infrastructures expand across sectors such as mobility, healthcare, agriculture, and energy, the role of local actors in shaping data access and use becomes increasingly critical. But how will the new EU Data Governance framework impact these local players?

This key issue will be explored at the upcoming City Data Governance Conference, jointly organized by the Institute for Information Law (IViR) of the University of Amsterdam and the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT) of Tilburg University. The conference, titled The Impact of the New EU Data Governance Legal Framework at the Local Level, focuses on how new EU data regulations shape the capacities of local entities to innovate and govern effectively.

As data becomes a cornerstone for local innovation and governance, understanding how new EU data laws shape local capacities is essential. Thus, the City Data Governance Conference brings together leading experts in law, technology, and policy to provide local actors with the insights and tools necessary to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by these new frameworks. Whether it’s discussing Data Spaces or unpacking the Data Governance Act, this event promises to shed light on how cities can better navigate the complex web of data governance in the EU.
